So, what’s the verdict? Should I print them? Both? Neither? You decide…

Part of the process of doing this design was also getting permission from the O’Bannon Company to put Tarman on a shirt. I already license the rights for the Party Time shirt from them and wanted to make sure it would be possible to do a Tarman design as well. In talking with Diane O’Bannon, she thought it would be appropriate to contact William Stout for permission to use the Tarman character. For those of you who aren’t familiar with William Stout, he is a production designer who has worked on numerous feature films (including Conan, First Blood, and more recently The Mist and Pan’s Labyrinth). He is also responsible for set design on Return of the Living Dead and, you guessed it, the design of the infamous Tarman. When I told William of my idea, he thought it would be fun to do his own rendition of Tarman, since he was the original creator of it. Although we had already finished the design, I was interested in seeing what he could come up with, so I decided to wait until he was able to work on a design. A few weeks later, he sent a black and white drawing of his idea. Even though it did not look like the Tarman from the movie, I really liked the new look of the old zombie…and it almost reminded me of an EC Comics type creature, but somehow modernized.

So now I’m left with a dilemma…which design should I print? And rather than make some executive decision myself, I thought it would be a much better idea to let YOU decide. After all, you asked for a Tarman design, so it’s only fair that you get to choose what design you want! So take a look at the two designs below (you can click on the image to enlarge it – it will open in a new window) and think about what you wold rather see on a shirt.  Keep in mind that whichever design is chosen will be colored for the final shirt. These are just black and white sketches.

Which one do you like? Is it the classic look of Tarman from the film (IMAGE A), or is it a stylized look designed by Tarman’s creator William Stout (IMAGE B)? Once you have made your decision, vote using the poll below. Then, share your comments on either or both designs below!

My primary goal has always been (and always will be) to provide you with the most kick-ass horror shirts, period. Afterall, you are a true horror fan and deserve to wear the best…why settle for anything less? And from all the emails and comments I’ve received, what you want are new designs. However, I’ve also come to the conclusion that, in order for me to keep releasing new designs, I need to change a few things.

What you may not realize is, I’m actually running out of room here. I’ve got shelves packed with shirts and even after adding some additional space a few months ago, I’m already running out of room. As you can imagine, that makes adding new designs much harder.

So here’s the deal…I’m going to be retiring designs on a more regular basis. I just need to let go of some of the older designs and ones that just don’t sell as well anymore. Instead of watching some shirts just take up space, I’d rather blow them out at ridiculous prices to make room for a fresh, new design. Wouldn’t you agree?

Starting this Thursday, I will be getting rid of 15 designs. They will all be marked down severely and put in a clearance section on the site. And once they are gone, they are gone for good and will not be reprinted. Some of them may re-appear in the vintage section or even be completely re-designed as an original shirt at a later date…but in either case, it will be a different design.

As for the new designs…they’re coming. This Thursday will also see the release of 5 new designs (as well as 3 new hoodies) and have more already waiting to get printed. So have no fear…lots of new stuff is on the way!

Ok, I know it’s been awhile since I’ve updated this blog but it’s with good reason. We’ve been working hard printing shirts and filling orders this holiday season so it leaves little time to wax philosophically on this soapbox of mine. Eh, who am I kidding..no one reads this anyway, lol. But, for those of you who do, you’re in luck…because there is something coming up that I’m extremely excited to announce….

First off, I just want to say that this year has been great for Fright-Rags. It’s shown me that you guys and gals truly dig the horror shirts we are making and nothing makes me happier than to give you the stuff you want. I can tell you already that 2008 is only going to be better. Much better. We have tons of new stuff in the works to expand our line of the most kick ass horror t-shirts around. But there’s more…

Yes…more.

What if I told you that you could pick from over 50 designs and choose from a regular t-shirt, long sleeve shirt, or even girl shirt? Not only that, but what if I told you that you could choose from 10 different colors? And, you would have a choice to make that design look distressed/aged if you wanted to? Sound cool? Then stay tuned because ALL of that is coming…

Then check out the site on New Year’s Day for the unveiling of an entire new line of horror shirts right on Fright-Rags. The best just got better.

While we’re hard at work on new designs, I thought I would show you a quick sneak peek at some shirts coming up. So keep read on to see what we have in store…

First up is the cult classic “The Town That Dreaded Sundown”! This was masterfully executed by Mr. Deep Red himself, Chas. Balun. He’s helped out on a number of Fright-Rags designs and I think this is one of his best. Check it out:

 And second, boy do we have a sight to behold….it’s the undead Victor Pascow back from the grave warning us that, yes, the ground beyond is sour. And who could depict such gore other than Jeff Zornow who has drawn up some of our most ghastly designs yet!
