Lost Highway
Ok, we all know there is no shortage of horror blogs online today. For such a niche market, it seems like everyone has their own little corner of the horror world online (myself included). So how does one stand out? What makes one better than the another? Lost Highway knows how…read more to see what I mean…
I’m a sucker for retro-horror, and all sorts of B-movies from the 70′s and 80′s. And while it;’s a popular niche for rabid fans, it’s hard to find a place to go where they “get it”. Sure, there are lots of sites covering these types of movies, but some are just half-assed, never updated, and are stuck in some Geocities hell circa 1996 with enough spinning gifs to make your head explode. But I digress… What I mean is, it’s hard to get good content on a well-designed site these days.
Well, look no further than Lost Highway. I have to admit, these guys know their B-movie cheese. And that’s a good thing. They review just about any basement, bargain-bin film out there…and although most are horror, they do a good job of covering other genres like sci-fi, exploitation, and many other types of films. Not only that, but they show trailers…which is a favorite feature of mine. I love sites that post trailers for films and this site doesn’t disappoint. That alone will kill an hour or two on the site!
Aside from movies themselves, Lost Highway also posts links to other sites that may be of interest to horror fans. In fact, a recent post showcases another shirt site that has some pretty cool tees based on horror, comedy, and sci-fi movies called Nerdoh. I just like the fact that they deal with more than just reviews on films, especially when there are so many other sites out there dedicated to horror. It makes it feel more community-oriented.
In keeping with the community feeling, you can also follow them on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and even get their reviews on iTunes. The combination of such a niche market with popular social networking sites is definitely a good one, and shows that these guys care about what they’re doing and want everyone to be a part of it.
