Time to change…
So I did a lot of thinking over the holidays about where to go with Fright-Rags in 2009. I already have quite a few things planned and I have a feeling it’s going to be a big year ahead.
My primary goal has always been (and always will be) to provide you with the most kick-ass horror shirts, period. Afterall, you are a true horror fan and deserve to wear the best…why settle for anything less? And from all the emails and comments I’ve received, what you want are new designs. However, I’ve also come to the conclusion that, in order for me to keep releasing new designs, I need to change a few things.
What you may not realize is, I’m actually running out of room here. I’ve got shelves packed with shirts and even after adding some additional space a few months ago, I’m already running out of room. As you can imagine, that makes adding new designs much harder.
So here’s the deal…I’m going to be retiring designs on a more regular basis. I just need to let go of some of the older designs and ones that just don’t sell as well anymore. Instead of watching some shirts just take up space, I’d rather blow them out at ridiculous prices to make room for a fresh, new design. Wouldn’t you agree?
Starting this Thursday, I will be getting rid of 15 designs. They will all be marked down severely and put in a clearance section on the site. And once they are gone, they are gone for good and will not be reprinted. Some of them may re-appear in the vintage section or even be completely re-designed as an original shirt at a later date…but in either case, it will be a different design.
As for the new designs…they’re coming. This Thursday will also see the release of 5 new designs (as well as 3 new hoodies) and have more already waiting to get printed. So have no fear…lots of new stuff is on the way!
So what do you think? Does this make you a bit sad to see some designs go? Happy that new stuff is on the way? Indifferent to the whole thing? I’d love to hear what you think…post your comments below!
Ben, I think this is a great idea… keep the new designs coming dude!
Alex
I think it’s a great idea Ben. It’ll get people of their asses to get some of the shirts they have been meaning to get…I’m not talking about me, I swear!
i love that you are allowing sales to get new designs in! its going to be sad to see some of the older designs go but hey if you dont already have them…
and im am so very happy to be seeing new stuff!!
anything about the slim fitting tees? i love the feel of them!
I’m sad to see any design go! However new designs have me excited as hell. Keep up the excellent work!
I understand and support your plans. My only request as a customer would be that you send us an email that notifies us when certain designs are facing imminent retirement so that we may take advantage of the clearance sale and more importantly not miss out on being able to acquire a design before it is too late.
While it’s sad to see designs go, it’s always nice to have a retired/limited shirt. Are you going to send out a notice when these shirts hit clearance?
i like the idea of “out with the old in with the new”
besides, ive seen the designs evolve and the old ones just dont compare to the new stuff
Sounds like a good idea to me.I was gonna suggest more hoodies but you already beat me to it.Good Luck!
Hey Ben,
This is very exciting news, and a great idea. Keep up the great work.
It depends on what designs that are going to be gone on if i will be sad or not be sad.
Personally for me i can’t really give an opinion untill i really know what shirts are going to be gone.
I think you’re thinking is right on the money. Change is never bad. I do have one request though I love the House on Haunted Hill shirt, in fact some of my best memories are watching the Vincent Price/Roger Corman movies with my dad who saw them as a kid. I would love to see a shirt based on the movie the Raven!
Good luck, you guys Rock!
Great idea! Not only will we get some clearance deals to check out, but the idea of new designs is awesome. Can’t wait to see what you have coming. And will be checking out your clearance section, as well.
Hope you & Fright Rags have a great 2009!
Hey ben, firstly want to say what a great job u are doing. LOVE the shirts!! i recieved my ‘stripe’ limited edition tee aswel jst after christmas, and iwas happy that also got about 5 of your shirts for christmas too!
as to retiring designs i think its a good idea, altho sad that they will no longer be availble, much like the dark night of the scarecrow shirt, its the only way to create space and also a good way to breath some new life into your stock!! so on the brightside we can look forward to more awsome designs!!
my fright rags collection is growing fast so with more new designs to be added, it will only get bigger!!
Always happy to see more shirts on the site. There are a few i would be sad if they went. But of course there are some i’m not a fan of.Please consider making a My Bloody Valentine hoodie though, with the recut release dvd and the remake it seems perfect, plus i’ve almost worn out my shirt i’ve had forever. Can’t wait to see the new designs.
I can’t wait to see the designs. I have purchased a lot of shirts and one hoodie and could not be more pleased in the product. I cannot wait until Thursday.
Best Regards,
Troy
holy hell this is great news!!! I am super excited for the new designs and cant wait to get my hands on some marked off ones as well!! I LOOOOOVEEEEE the “Stripe” T-SHirt btw!!!!
cheers
Nev
hey, glad to see you’re growing even bigger with some more new stuff!!
although i’m saddened to see that some of your older designs are going away, it just makes those that have them appreciate them even more with a “limited” edition status!
plus it makes for much less of an inventory nightmare as well hahaha
definitely hyped to see what you have in store for us in the coming year!
and to make some more stickers for you too!
-kristoff
How can one disagree with more kick-ass horror shirts? As for the designs going out of print, I think that makes them worth more! It might be disappointing for those who wear out the shirts, but a 2nd or 3rd edition down the road gives your fans something to look forward to (and wear again)!
Fright-Rags.com (and Ben) fan, Alex
Glad to see new designs on the way. More 1950′s Sci Fi and Horror would be very much appreciated. Would love to see Fiend without a Face, Creature from the Black Lagoon, The Giant Claw, Tarantula Godzilla, anything Ray HarryHausen and other classics from the 1950′s era!
Sounds fine to me.
I totally support what you’re doing. Great site, great merchandise. Keep it coming!
Wow, thanks for all the responses so far! Your comments and support are truly humbling…I really appreciate it.
As for letting you know what will be discontinued ahead of time….that’s a great idea. I may send out another email to you tomorrow to let you know what’s going to be on the clearance list. That way you’ll know what to expect on Thursday.
@ Dave Young – It’s funny you mentioned the Dark Night of the Scarecrow shirt. That’s actually getting a revival thanks to a newly acquired license from the creator of the film himself. Look for it this Thursday as just one of the new releases
@ Sarah – Not to worry, none of the vintage shirts are getting the axe just yet. Most all of those will stick around for a long time as they are each custom-made to order…meaning they don’t take up needed shelf space.
Thanks again for all the responses so far. Keep ‘em coming!
Hi Ben, I always look forward to new designs…can’t wait to see what they are.
I would love to see a really good PREDATOR design in the future, hes such a great looking monster!
Have a great ’09!
All the best, Mark from Essex, UK.
excellent ben!! cant wait to see the new dark night of the scarecrow tee!!
fright rags is awsome!! and alot of my friends here in the uk always ask where i get those kick ass horror shirts!!
Hot damn, new designs AND blowout sales just in time for my birthday? What god did I please?
Still, while it’s always sad to see old designs go, new designs are always welcome. Especially if last year’s batch are any indication. Keep up the good work!
I haven’t received my t-shirts yet, but they should arrive this month, can’t wait for the new designs, but you should announce the vintage ones separately and throw in some previews for the main horror t-shirts.
Making way for the new with the purging of the old? Sounds just like the thing to do. This is a great move.
Keep them coming mate.
Fright rags Rox like Robot Jox!
Still waiting for the Rawhead Rex one!
Ben-
That sounds wonderful. Thanks, as always, for such a great site!I can’t wait to see the new designs and I’m psyched for the sales!
I <3 IT – what gives t-shirts that extra uber cool is making them limited edition (retiring a design, then deciding if you want bring it back later is fine) – Disney releases a movie from their vault (improving the previous edition) for a limited time (returning said movie to their vault) – Sideshow Toys & Collectibles makes limited edition (and variants) of everything they come out with (retiring a toy or collectible when they’re sold out) …. it’s only logical !
~(^)~
Love the idea…The only thing I’d like to see is a change in the type of shirts you print on, especially the girls. The girls shirts are too short and stretch out. Just a suggestion
Excellent idea Ben.
Do whatever it takes to keep moving fwd boss!
Trust that you have lots of people here to support you.
Hi Ben,
as said in a previous post, this will make us slackers out there buy the shirts we’ve been meaning to buy for a long time!
My only comment is I hope once a shirt reaches its “shirt-life” we can speak nicely to you to perhaps reprint it.
keep up the great work
I think that is a great idea. I love owning out of print or a collector item shirt. I think you will move a lot of shirts this way. I will be looking out for the discount shirts and buying alot of them. Can’t wait to see the new shirts design.
I am beyond curious to see what designs are retiring… but all the same, I am stoked as hell to see the new designs (Stripe rocked, as we all know).
Thanks — you give my wardrobe personality
Eeek! you’re scaring me!!!! I am unemployed right now and have been waiting until I find work to buy a couple of shirts. I just have a bad feeling you will be retiring a couple I have had my eye on. Please don’t let it it be “OBEY”, “All Hallows Eve”, and “Thrill Me”
I guess no matter what, necessity dictates business. I love your shirts!!
Wally
I’m all for new designs and hoping you will continue to delve into more classic and cult horror movies. I have found designs for films on your site that I have not found elsewhere and love every shirt that I’ve bought.
I am looking forward to being a return customer to Fright-Rags in 2009! Keep up the great work, Ben and staff!
I have to agree with a previous post-er….the old ones really don’t match up to the new stuff coming out. This company has really taken on a life of it’s own, and in order for it’s survival, a ‘time of change’ is imminent.
But definitely keep us up-to-date on which designs will ever face the chopping block! Hell, a sale is a sale!! ha ha
I pretty much echo everyone else when I say that I am sad to see the earlier designs go, but I totally understand. Just let us know which ones are going in advance so we can get in on ground floor for the clearance, man. Thanks and keep ‘em coming!
This is very exciting! I love new shirts and I love clearance too! Although it will suck for people who have yet to discover Fright Rags, it’s a great opportunity for us to get shirts at an awesome price, only to have other new shirts take their place! I’m still sticking with my suggestion of a Grapes of Death shirt, it’s my favorite horror movie and I’d love to be able to add it to my collection! I wouldn’t mind some Larry Cohen love too, The Stuff or Q: The Winged Serpent would be AMAZING on a shirt!
It’s always kind of sad to see things go, and my first thought was “Nooo, don’t retire old shirts!” But you know what? I have all of the Fright-Rags shirts I really want (like six of’em and a hoodie). I’d rather see some new designs that will make me say “I’ve GOT to have that,” like the ones I already own did when I first saw them.
Also, I second the Creature from the Black Lagoon request.
Man, I’ve been keeping tabs on Fright-Rags since there were only 11 or so shirts up for sale, and it just keeps getting better and better.
Thanks for the heads up on the shirt reductions. Good to know it’s for newer designes to come in and not just a dwindling of the selection. You all do such a great job with the merchandise it’s nice to know you think about the fans and buyers.
Keep up the excellent work!
As sad as it is to see them go it’s always great to see the new designs coming up. Keep the quality Fright-Rags high and the prices smile inspiring and we’ll keep you busy and spaceless.
Looking forward to 2009′s ‘Rags!!!
Cheers Ben,
Nick
First off, your holiday limited edition ‘Spike’ t-shirt was great! It was the first time I actually checked my email on a daily basis in order to be one of the first to grab the design. Thank you for that!
I think retiring old designs is needed in order to move forward and allow for new ones…especially if you re-design and bring back for a limited time. I would like to see more ‘limited’ designs, say, 4 a year…you have a loyal following and we’re all eager to see what you have in the works for 2009.
Like the preceding post, I have been a fan of Fright Rags when there were only a few designs to choose from and I’m always waiting for more. CHEERS!
perfect!!!!! i’m really excited to see these new designs…
<3<3
dude the site rocks.would you conider doing more lucio fulci designs.that would be fantastic
Great idea, Ben! Out with the old, in with the new. Survival of the fittest! BTW, a Prophecy (Frankenheimer, of course!) or Mother’s Day design would be incredible!
As much as we love ALL your designs, I think it’s a great idea! Jake is up to about 30 some shirts and 1 hoodie, so we will be excited to see what you create now. The shirts I got him for xmas were awesome. I especially like the shark shirt. And besides one of the highlights at Monster Mania every August is getting new fright-rags!!
It IS sad to have some designs leave the fold, but hey, if they’re not movin’ then so be it. Since new ones will be added it’s not like we’re losing selection, selection is just evolving. Besides, I’d rather see it done this way than prices rising to provide more storage space. I think your decision is well thought out & quite brainy meester! Fright-Rags has always been on the up-n-up. This is just another step to providing killer service, murderous designs, & insane quality at slasher prices! (Yes, all puns intended!)
Keep ‘em comin’!
I can’t wait to lay my peepers on some new designs
-Jon
Hey Ben, I think these are all great ideas! I have all the confidence in you guys that you will continue to make kick-ass horror shirts in 2009. I can’t wait to see which shirts will be retired because I’m sure I will be stocking up this Thursday. I’ve been waiting forever for some new designs and I can’t wait to get a look at them! Keep up the excellent work Ben!
I’ve become quite comfortable with your decisions and have a lot of respect for you as a fellow fan of horror movies. You’ve done a great service for all of us. So do what you have to do to get more designs out there. I think putting a clearance section for retired designs will put the fire under those of us who want a design before it’s gone. I’m looking forward to future designs, particularly the vintage styles.
Best wishes
