Vote on a New Design : Part Five : THE FINAL ROUND

2009 July 1
by Ben

Ok, I know the last round was supposed to be it…but we have some unfinished business. Based on the flood of comments and emails I’ve received regarding there being no quote on the shirt (not to mention that round three was decided by only ONE vote), I felt I needed to address the situation. So, this is it…the final round…Below are three different options for this shirt design. The color was voted on in the last round, so that will not change (I’m going with the majority here, so please don’t ask to do a re-vote on this one). Now all that is left is to figure out if the quote should be on this shirt, and if so, where it should go. So check out the three options below and cast your vote!

DESIGN ON FRONT /  NO TEXT

DESIGN AND TEXT ON FRONT

DESIGN ON FRONT / TEXT ON BACK

This is the final round, so make sure to get everyone you know to cast their votes! Because once it’s over, the winning design will get printed, even if it’s only by one vote… You have until this Friday, July 3!

Which final design do you like best?

  • Design on front - Text on back (58%, 566 Votes)
  • Design AND Text on front (23%, 224 Votes)
  • Design on front - NO TEXT (19%, 189 Votes)

Total Voters: 979

I really appreciate all the feedback and we’ll definitely be doing this again at some point. Make sure to leave your comments below on what you thought of this round and the entire series. Thanks again for participating!

Design #2 is so cluttered and loud that the design loses some of it’s coolness and it looks like a Wal-mart novelty tee. The back quote is much better, but I would still rather have the artwork and that’s it. I know the quote…I love the quote…I don’t need to wear the quote…

    Hey,

You’re doing a great job bro.

ditto the previous comment!!!! the quote does look good, but….

and def. don’t put it on the back…it looks like an afterthought!!!

votes look good for the first…let’s just get ‘em printed already!! ha ha

Yes put the quote on the back!! i think the tee wud be so much colour with the quote.

i do have 1 request, idea tho!

can u make the text on the back look like it does on the front i.e. curved etc, rather than just plain straight text?

Gotta admit… I said I wouldn’t mind losing to color scheme #4 and I couldn’t be happier with how it looks. I think it actually looks better then color scheme #1 now that I look at it again.

Anyways, I gotta say THANK YOU Ben for giving us fans 1 more chance to get that quote on this amazing design. I’m absolutely loving the quote on the back… and that got my vote. Let’s hope that’s the design that wins… cause I will most certainly be buying it.

I love both 2 and 3 – any way you look at it though…this design is a winner! love the shirts

  8. July 1, 2009

Oh MAN this looks good on a shirt (even if it is a photoshop comp!)

I’m pretty torn between #1 and #3, but I ended up voting #1. I own your Beetlejuice and Killer Klowns shirts, and I’ve struck up great conversations with horror fans who either “get it” or say, “I know that, but I can’t think of where I saw it!” If they had a title or quote on the front, they’d lose some of that charm.

It’ll be a damn shame if #2 gets the vote, because I’ll be out a sweet new They Live shirt. It makes an otherwise artful design look amateurish.

I love the quote as well but I simply can’t wear it to work or in front of my kids or they’ll point to the word and say “your shirt has a bad word on it!” so as much as I love the quote for me I can’t have it on there.

  10. July 1, 2009

Nooooooo. I thought we had this decided! No text period!

  11. July 1, 2009

I think the text on back looks great.
Design on front – Text on back is the design I’d buy.

At first i thought the text should go on the tee and that is how i voted. I like the idea of it on the back so as to not take away from the kick arse artwork on the front and that is how i voted…however I can also agree that when i think of the movie and see the artwork that particular quote is one of my first unwritten thoughts. Either way I want one!!! :)

  13. July 1, 2009

Gotta disagree with Dave Y. above. No curving of the text on the back… I like it with text on the back, as pictured!

Congratulations, everyone, and thanks Ben! I think we have a winner!

  14. July 1, 2009

ps – as far as the text on the back, I think it looks great centered and blocky like that. I think the curve is part of what I don’t like on the front.

  15. July 1, 2009

Most people would rather have the back of the shirt have something as well as the front. I think those shirts sell better anyway. I love the design on the front and the text on the back and I do agree with one of the comments above about putting the text on the back of the shirt and giving it the curved looked that was used on the design that had it on the front. That would look so cool on the back and give it a more unique look than just a regular straight lined text.

I was all about just the design with no writing at all…but the idea of putting text on the back totally sold me! Me likey….but does it come with rag on it? Ooooh..inside joke!

I am ordering this T shirt if it comes out with the text on the back.
    Seriously.
You can have the money right now.
Actually I’ll take two. Just in case, and for those special occasions such as weddings and stuff.
(need one that’s not been washed too many times for those)

Still not a big fan of the cartoon/comic quality of the artwork. Wish it was more realistic looking.

Like the concept…not my style of art.

First of all great job on all the fan interaction. It makes the shirt so much more exciting to be a part of all the production steps.

I was an adamant voter of no text on this shirt, but on the back just makes me smack my head and say why didnt i think of that?

Design on the front and text on the back is for sure the way to go and I have just cast my vote accordinly.

I CANNOT WAIT TO BUY THIS SHIRT!!!!!

I think it’s great that you gave everyone another chance at the quote, on the back is the best option.
For those who don’t like the quote- wear a jacket! No one will see it : )

    My vote: NO TEXT

However, text on back would be a good compromise for those wanting, and those loathing, the classic text.

  27. July 1, 2009

I love the text on the back

  28. July 1, 2009

I’m still rooting for no text!
Either way I appreciate that consideration was given seeing as how so many wanted the quote.
I will be purchasing no matter what the outcome :)

  29. July 1, 2009

I like 3. Put the quote on the back.

I love having the quote, but agree it’s a bit cluttered on the front. Plus, w/ the quote on the back, all those folks who didn’t want to run around with “ass” on the front of the shirt, can where a shirt open over the t-shirt and voila, problem solved! :)

2 or 3. the quote makes the shirt.
thanks for doing a revote. i think text on the back gives the no quote voters what they wanted still.

The overall design is great. I am curious about the coloring of the alien faces. As you guys remember they had blue skin with red patches. Why did you only highlight the red patches and leave the rest grey?

Also, there was no talk about changing the text to the movie title “They Live”?

Once again I vote no text. Joseph M said it best:

“I know the quote…I love the quote…I don’t need to wear the quote…”

I personally liked #2 but I can understand people’s feelings of it looking too cluttered. To be honest, I don’t mind any of the options so whichever one gets chosen, I’ll be happy with it. They all look great.

  43. July 1, 2009

After the quote got voted off, I wasn’t going to buy this shirt. I already had one They Live shirt from Fright Rags, and I loved that quote. Glad to see you brought it back!!! Voted for the art on front and text on back. Awesome!

Let me just say, as a fan, I love being a part of this process! It’s awesome to be able to help with the design process. Thanks! I have been against the text from the very beginning and I still think it’s being on the front of the shirt is still too much but I must concede to it being on the back. It is a great quote and now its not as cluttered looking with the text on the back. Maybe we’ll have some more “text on back” shirts in the future?
