About Shocker

Wes Craven's Shocker (1989) follows serial killer Horace Pinker, who makes a deal with dark forces that allows him to continue killing as living electricity after his execution in the electric chair. The film attempted to create a new franchise villain in the vein of Freddy Krueger, with Mitch Pileggi's performance as Pinker bringing manic energy to the role. The climax features a wild journey through different television programs as hero and villain battle across broadcast reality, reflecting Craven's ongoing interest in media's relationship with violence. While Shocker didn't achieve Nightmare on Elm Street success, it's gained appreciation as an ambitious, weird entry in Craven's filmography that anticipates later works like New Nightmare and Scream.
