About RAD (1986)

RAD (1986) is the BMX bike racing movie that captured a specific moment in 1980s youth culture, following small-town racer Cru Jones as he competes against professional riders sponsored by a corrupt corporation at the legendary "Helltrack." The film's dance scene—where Cru and his love interest perform an elaborate routine on BMX bikes to "Send Me an Angel"—has become iconic among cult film enthusiasts. Stuntman turned director Hal Needham (Smokey and the Bandit) captured the era's BMX craze with authentic racing sequences performed by professional riders. Despite minimal theatrical release, RAD became a beloved VHS classic that continues to inspire BMX culture, with a vinyl soundtrack release and revival screenings demonstrating its enduring appeal.
