About Night of the Creeps (1986)

Night of the Creeps (1986) was the feature debut of writer-director Fred Dekker, a loving mash-up of 1950s sci-fi, zombie movies, and 1980s college comedy. In 1986, college students Chris Romero (Jason Lively) and J.C. Hooper (Steve Marshall) try to steal a corpse as a fraternity pledge stunt and accidentally release alien slugs that crawl into people's mouths and turn them into zombies. Tom Atkins steals the show as hard-boiled Detective Ray Cameron, who answers the phone with 'Thrill me!' and greets a sorority house with good news and bad news: their dates have arrived, but they're dead. Dekker named many characters after horror directors, including Romero, Hooper, Cronenberg, Carpenter, and Raimi. The film flopped in theaters but later developed a devoted cult following.
