Back to the Future Part III (1990) concluded the trilogy by sending Marty McFly to the Old West of 1885, where he must rescue a lovestruck Doc Brown and find a way back to the future before running out of the gasoline the DeLorean needs to reach 88 mph. The Western setting allowed for creative setpieces including a locomotive-pushed time machine and Doc's romance with schoolteacher Clara Clayton. Shot back-to-back with Part II, the film maintained the series' high production values while providing satisfying closure for the characters audiences had followed across three decades of screen time. The ending—with Doc arriving in a time-traveling train and assuring Marty his future isn't written yet—delivered a perfect capper to the beloved trilogy.
