About The Lost Boys (1987)

Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys (1987) reinvented the vampire genre for the MTV generation, combining genuine horror with rock 'n' roll attitude and the sex appeal of a young cast led by Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, and the two Coreys—Haim and Feldman. Sutherland's David, with his platinum mullet and black leather coat, became the template for the "cool vampire" that would influence everything from Buffy the Vampire Slayer to Twilight, while the Frog Brothers brought a comic book sensibility to vampire hunting. The film was originally conceived as a children's movie about pre-teen vampires inspired by Peter Pan—the title references the Lost Boys from J.M. Barrie's story—before being aged up into a teen horror film. Shot on location in Santa Cruz, California, the boardwalk scenes captured a specific moment in California youth culture, and the film's soundtrack, anchored by Echo and the Bunnymen's cover of "People Are Strange," became as iconic as the movie itself.
