  • About From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)

Robert Rodriguez's From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) is famous for its radical genre shift—spending its first half as a tense Tarantino crime thriller about two criminal brothers taking hostages, then suddenly transforming into an all-out vampire splatterfest when they arrive at a strip club called the Titty Twister. Quentin Tarantino wrote the screenplay and co-stars as Richie Gecko opposite George Clooney, who took the role specifically to break free of his ER nice-guy image and prove he could carry a feature film. Salma Hayek's snake dance as vampire queen Santánico Pandemonium, performed with a live albino Burmese python, became one of the most iconic scenes of 1990s cinema. The film's practical creature effects by KNB EFX Group created some of the most memorably grotesque vampire designs in horror history, influencing vampire aesthetics for years to come.
