About Sleepaway Camp

Sleepaway Camp (1983) is notorious for one of horror's most shocking twist endings—a final image so disturbing it's been burned into the minds of everyone who's seen it. The film follows shy Angela, sent to summer camp with her protective cousin, where a series of increasingly creative murders begins claiming victims. Beyond its infamous ending, Sleepaway Camp offers genuinely effective kills (the curling iron, the beehive) and surprisingly sympathetic characterization for a low-budget slasher. The film has been reappraised for its complex treatment of gender identity and trauma, themes the ending forces viewers to confront in ways that remain provocative forty years later.
