About Dracula

Tod Browning's Dracula (1931) launched Universal's legendary monster franchise and made Bela Lugosi an immortal horror icon with his hypnotic performance as the Transylvanian vampire. Lugosi had played the role on Broadway for years before the film, and his Hungarian accent, deliberate movements, and intense stare defined how audiences would imagine Dracula for generations. The film was shot simultaneously with a Spanish-language version using the same sets at night, and many consider that version technically superior. Lugosi became so identified with the role that he was buried in his Dracula cape upon his death in 1956, forever linking the actor to the character that made him famous.
