The original hat wasn’t pulled from a studio wardrobe—it belonged to actress P.J. Soles, who wore it to her auditions for Carrie. When she later arrived on set without it, director Brian De Palma asked her to retrieve it. During the volleyball scene, Soles struck Carrie with the pin-covered cap, accidentally snagging Sissy Spacek’s hair in the process. The unexpectedly vicious moment impressed De Palma so much that Norma’s role was expanded—and her ever-present hat became one of the film’s most memorable accessories.
Designed by Steve Roman Jr., this officially licensed replica pays tribute to Norma’s unmistakable look with a heavy-washed cotton twill construction, colorful appliqué and embroidery, and three removable enamel pins.
