About Child's Play (1988)

Child's Play (1988) brought the killer doll concept into the modern era with Chucky, a Good Guy doll possessed by the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray via voodoo ritual. Brad Dourif's voice performance as Chucky—alternating between innocent toy and foul-mouthed murderer—created one of horror's most quotable villains. Director Tom Holland and writer Don Mancini crafted a film that works both as genuine horror and as satire of 1980s toy marketing and consumer culture. The elaborate animatronic puppetry required to bring Chucky to life pushed practical effects technology forward, and the film launched a franchise that continues to this day with both theatrical films and a TV series.
