Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (1995) finally explained the Man in Black as part of the Cult of Thorn, an ancient Druid curse that compels Michael to kill his entire bloodline. The film is notorious for existing in two radically different versions: the theatrical cut and the "Producer's Cut," which features an entirely different ending and more coherent mythology. This was Paul Rudd's film debut as an adult Tommy Doyle, the boy Laurie Strode babysat in the original. Tragically, Donald Pleasence (Dr. Loomis) died shortly after filming, making this his final appearance in the role he'd played for seventeen years across six films.
