About The Amityville Horror

The Amityville Horror (1979) capitalized on the supposedly true story of the Lutz family, who claimed demonic forces drove them from their Long Island home just 28 days after moving in. James Brolin and Margot Kidder star as the increasingly terrorized couple, with the house's distinctive quarter-moon windows becoming an iconic horror image. The film was a massive commercial success, grossing over $86 million against a $4.2 million budget and spawning numerous sequels. Despite the Lutz claims being largely debunked—the family admitted to fabricating much of the story over wine with lawyer William Weber—the film tapped into primal fears about homeownership and family sanctity that resonate to this day.
